NCEdCloud offers multiple Privileged Roles to give users additional NCEdCloud IAM Service permissions and access. Such roles are usually assigned to support personnel that need to administrate users, data and technology resources in the Public School Unit (PSU). Here’s some details about what these roles are, how to ask for them and how they work together.
What Privileged Roles Can You Apply For?
LEA Administrator
This role is similar to the District Admins with just a little bit more control over User Accounts, Policies and Education. LEA Administrators are able to do this through the system on a software level.
LEA Data Auditor
This role is responsible for auditing and data accuracy within your PSU. They make sure that all the data information related to students, teachers and security are maintained
LEA Help Desk & LEA Student Help Desk
With these roles, you can administer student/staff accounts by resetting passwords and viewing account details.
School Help Desk & School Student Help Desk
The School Help Desk and Student Help Desk role is much similar to the LEA Help Desk role but for an individual school. It is for the school level, these roles serve students and staff only.
How to Request a Privileged Role?
- Login to your NCEdCloud account by visiting https://idp.ncedcloud.org/
- Click the drop-down arrow next to the “Applications” button.
- Select “Request” from the list of options.
- Click on “Entitlements” and then go to “Catalogue.”
- Choose the role you want to apply for.
- Click the “Request” button at the bottom right of the page.
After you’ve requested your role, you’ll need to enter two more pieces of information:
- 3-digit LEA code: For PSU-wide roles.
- 6-digit Campus Code: For school-level roles, such as School Student Help Desk.
- Your request will then need to be approved by your district’s or school’s LEA Administrator.
How to Approve Role Requests from Other Users?
LEA Administrators have the ability to approve or deny Role Requests made by users. When a request is submitted, you will find it in the Requests view in the “Tasks/Approvals” section. The request can be reviewed and then approved or denied according to user needs.
How to Handle Users with Privileged Roles?
Another part of managing users with Privileged Roles is monitoring their access and revoking roles when it becomes necessary. The process of requesting, can also be reversed by the users. Roles can also be removed by an LEA Administrator and they take ticket on that such as Role Removal Request from IDM Support Community. So that only authorized users will have access to important data and systems.
